Hot from
the cinemas debuting in ATL, this Georgia
native has fast become one of the emerging names
in rap circles. Part of the reason for this has
been his astute associations – he’s surrounded
himself with the likes of Beenie Man and pumped
out records consistently.
King marks his fourth album
in a mere five years – it’s the sort of ratio that would do 1960s
artists proud. Of course, the biggest problem with
an artist like T.I. is that no matter how talented
he is – and is flow is fast and furious, particularly
on “I’m Talking To You” – there’s a sense of repetition
to much of King.
Essentially, he’s not doing anything new that he,
and others before him for that matter, haven’t done
before. So whilst Toomp’s production on “What You
Know” is pretty much spot on, seventy-five minutes
of T.I. is probably about half an hour too much.
He’s at his best when he’s at his most aggressive,
but when playing loverman on the likes of “Live in
the Sky” it works far less effectively.
