Kenny

Rating: 55%

Assembled by Richard Pleasance, the soundtrack to portaloo comedy flick Kenny features a great, organic bluegrass sound to it. The languid feel is complemented by vocalists here and there, but for the most part the feel is instrumental.

Undoubtedly the strangest addition to the soundtrack is the closing cover of “Taking Care of Business” by Bachman Turner Overdrive – with vocals from star Kenny Smyth, it’s closer to blur’s “Parklife” than anything else, and is a bit…disturbing.

Who knows where the Kenny soundtrack fits in. A bit of an oddity, much like the film itself, it’s things like the addition of the final number that sit it apart from a real bluegrass feel, but for the most part that’s exactly where it sits. Instead, the Kenny soundtrack just ends up being a confusing release that is pleasant but has nothing to really set it apart.
