48 Shades
soundtrack
inSYNC Music/Inertia

Rating: 58%

Based on Nick Earls’ coming of age dramedy 48 Shades of Brown, perhaps the most surprising aspect of the 48 Shades soundtrack is how low the Queensland representation is.

With the novel set most determinedly (as are all his books) in the Sunshine State, 48 Shades features more Sydney-siders than anything – 78 Saab, George Byrne, Josh Pyke, and Lior all make appearances (sometimes twice), as does former Queenslander Shane Nicholson, now most certainly a NSW resident.

Melbourne acts Art of Fighting and Sonicanimation also feature, while Beau Young performs the title cut and two other cuts besides, and for the most part the 48 Shades soundtrack centres around these soft-focus singer-songwriter sort of numbers.
