NICHOLSON
GOES LIVE
Vaguely country
singer/songwriter Shane Nicholson has just released
his second
album Faith & Science and to
support the release he will now take to the road
to perform along the east coast during June and
July.
Faith & Science followed
the first single “I Know What You Need” – which
was the #1 added song at radio first week out – and
will be followed by the new single “Safe and
Sound” which goes to radio in July.
Faith & Science follows
Shane’s
first album It’s A Movie which
was acclaimed in both Australia and the US.
It also comes with an accomanying wave of hype in
the wake of his marriage to alt.country pin-up gal
Kasey Chambers. Strangely enough, Faiht & Science appears
on her label, Essence Records, and was produced by
her brother Nash.
The last time Nicholson hit the road it was with
up-and-comers Angus and Julia Stone, who comprehensively
outshone him. Here’s hoping, for his sake, he doesn’t
pick such a fabulous supporting cast next time out.

SHAPESHIFTERS
IN SYDNEY
Next month, Shapeshifter
are geared up to bring their 5 piece live band
to Sydney for a warming winter Saturday night party,
filled with dub-heavy beats, soul, hip hop and
of course drum and bass. This incredible live
set will feature P Digss on vocals and Salmonella
Dub’s Tiki behind the mixing desk.
Having recently blown
away the headz at London’s legendary Fabric
nightclub, shared the stage with Pendulum and Concord
Dawn and been busy recording, Shapeshifter are
ripe with fresh new sounds from their superb forthcoming
album Soulstice.
Shapeshifter are
worlds away from the sterile confines of computers
and processors.
They are a powerhouse
live act using real musicians and live instruments
to create an organic blend of jazz and dub infused
drum ‘n’ bass, beats, funk and soul – appearing
with such a sterling array of friends, this will
make for a very special Sydney show…
Joining them on the night will be James De La Cruz
(ex Avalanches), Greg Packer (WA), Budspells (live
band), Gsan + Dredford and Dazed + Flawlezz with
DJ Ryan Lazy.
James De La Cruz
is one of the most likeable, humble and unassuming
DJs we’ve
ever had the pleasure of meeting. What does he
play you ask? Well just
like the Avalanches, the music comes from everywhere
and is spun brilliantly with a twist, with the express
aim of killer grin-inducing party with turntablistic
panache and flair.
Greg Packer’s upbeat DJ skills have seen him
win ‘Best DJ’ awards in his hometown
Perth; had Pendulum cite him as a key reason they
found drum ‘n’ bass and has made him
LTJ Bukem’s DJ support of choice.
Local hip hop/soul/dub
hybrid Budspells is supporting the night in full
live
band capacity, alongside the
turntable talents of the Gsan + Shapeshifter’s
uber drummer Dredford and local hip hop outfit Dazed
and Flawless, with DJ Ryan Lazy.
Date:
Saturday, 29th July @ The Forum, Fox Studios
