PYRAMID LINE-UP ROCKS

The Pyramid Rock Festival will return to Phillip Island once again this New Year’s weekend, from Friday 29 December 2006 until Monday 01 January 2007.

Without much further ado, The Pyramid Rock Festival is pleased to announce a stellar line-up for 2006, with many more acts to be announced soon:

A band that needs no introduction, but well and truly deserve one anyway, Silverchair will headline this year’s Pyramid Rock Festival. One of Australia’s most successful bands of all time, Silverchair has released four albums, won a swag of ARIA Awards, and played sell out shows around the world. Following an extended break, the members of Silverchair - Daniel Johns, Ben Gillies and Chris Joannou - regrouped in 2005 to commence work on their highly anticipated fifth album. The record is now in the bag, and set for release in 2007. It’s going to be a big year for the boys, and the Pyramid Rock Festival will be a fabulous and fitting way for them to see in the New Year.

From the Reading Festival to the Warped Tour, The Living End has played some of the world’s most prestigious festivals. After forming in 1997, the band has gone on to achieve what few others have: a five-time platinum debut album, 3 ARIA Awards and tours with a diverse range of acts including AC/DC and No Doubt. 2006 has been a huge year for The Living End with their fourth record State of Emergency debuting at number one on the charts, and the band playing sold out shows all around the nation at their biggest venues yet.

The multi-talented and ever charming Xavier Rudd has spent the last few months touring Europe and the USA on the back of his sixth album Food In The Belly. Incorporating didgeridoos, acoustic guitar and various percussion instruments simultaneously, Xavier Rudd will warm the cockles of your hearts with his songs of peace, love and understanding.

All the way from Long Beach in California, hip-hop prodigies Ugly Duckling will bring their killer beats and tight rhymes to the Pyramid Rock Festival. Dizzy, Andy and DJ Young Einstein have been releasing records and touring the world as Ugly Duckling for the past six years, and the boys will visit Australia off the back of their latest release Bang For The Buck. Fusing early 90s hip-hop with old school flavours, you’d be whack to miss your chance to see the masters of cool, Ugly Duckling.

Currently on a monster Australian tour to support the release of their second album Real Life, Evermore will see out 2006 at The Pyramid Rock Festival. Since the release of their debut album Dreams, Evermore has played over 300 live shows, achieved five ARIA nominations in 2005 and secured platinum status for their debut release. Citing classic songwriters such as The Beatles, David Bowie and Bob Dylan as major musical influences during the recording of Real Life, it is no surprise that the catchy anthems from these three brothers have hit the airwaves around the country.

Always pushing the boundaries of dance music, The Freestylers are releasing their fourth album Adventures In Freestyle later this month. Their hit single “Push Up” from their third album Raw as F**k skyrocketed into the Australian charts in 2004, and current radio singles “Painkiller” and “In Love With You” have already exploded onto the Australian airwaves. By combining influences from hip-hop to reggae, dancehall to electro, and break-beat to drum ’n bass, these British MCs are sure to make you get your groove on.

One of Perth’s most glorious pop ensembles, End of Fashion released its self-titled debut album in 2005. Since then, they’ve managed to win a couple of ARIAs, score an APRA nomination for ‘Song of the Year’, and play several sell out national tours. With its album approaching platinum sales, and releases across Europe and North America, End of Fashion will provide the perfect tonic for celebrating the holidays.

With several hit singles and sell-out tours to his name, the future of dance music is safe in the hands of Mylo. Myles MacInnes, a 26-year-old Scot from the Isle of Sky, has gone from a career in academia to become one of the leading figures of dance music. His astonishing debut album, Destroy Rock & Roll, shows an artist at ease with warming your soul and rocking the dance floor. Mylo will perform a DJ set at The Pyramid Rock Festival.

With their coastal origins, The Beautiful Girls will be on hand to lend their relaxed style to the Pyramid Rock Festival. With their surf folk roots, The Beautiful Girls will be right at home playing tunes from their debut album Learn Yourself and their second full-length recording We’re Already Gone. The Beautiful Girls have toured throughout Australia, Japan and the US, and have two nominations in the 2006 APRA Song Awards.

With their blend of hyper, manic and slightly twisted sounds, Sydney band Faker will hit the stage with songs from its accomplished debut Addicted Romantic. From humble beginnings in frontman Nathan Hudson’s bedroom, to the grind of an ever-changing line-up, Faker emerged an unstoppable outfit and scored a major record deal in 2005. Produced by Lindsay Gravina (Magic Dirt), the album includes the infectious singles “Teenage Werewolf” and “Quarter To Three”. On the live front, Hudson is a sight to behold - from thrashing around the floor to hanging from the rafters - his energetic ways make him a compelling frontman.

One of Australia’s finest new roots artists, Sydney singer-songwriter Lior is also part of the Pyramid Rock Festival’s huge line-up. Releasing his critically acclaimed debut album Autumn Flow in 2005, the independent release was a triple j Album of the Week, while Ministry Of Sound also picked up two songs for its Chillout Sessions compilation CD. Lior has been nominated for two ARIA Awards in 2006 and has a follow up album on the way.

Another outfit to emerge from the Perth music scene, Karnivool will bring their powerful blend of rock and metal mayhem to The Pyramid Rock Festival. With their formidable wall of sound, compelling anthems, and the recent release of their debut album Themata, Karnivool is set to tear up the stage and demand the complete attention of Festival goers. The rewards will be plentiful.

Originally from Daylesford in Victoria, Mia Dyson has gone from strength to strength since the release of her debut album Cold Water (2003), and her sophomore release Parking Lots (2005). With her distinctively moody vocals, and incredible guitar skills, Mia won over plenty of new fans in the USA and Canada this year, joined Frank Zappa’s Mother’s Of Invention on stage at the Winnipeg Folk Festival, and supported Ani Di Franco in New York’s Central Park.

Local blues artist Ash Grunwald has drawn comparisons to Robert Johnson, Tom Waits and Howlin’ Wolf, but the release of his fourth album Give Signs has seen the talented blues ’n roots artist carve his own distinct sound. Combining blues with hypnotic, addictive and bang-clang percussion, Ash Grunwald’s music is soulful and assertive. Following his extensive national tour in September, Ash Grunwald will grace the shores of Phillip Island in December to make his debut at The Pyramid Rock Festival.

Renowned for their energetic live shows, it’s no surprise that Bomba are crowd favourites with their unique combination of funk, dance and reggae. Fresh from the release of Bomba vs Laroz - an album which saw Bomba team up with leading dub and reggae producer DJ Laroz - Bomba is set to provide the perfect summer festival set at the Pyramid Rock Festival.
