FISTS IN THE AIR

With one firm foot in the hardcore community and the other stomping in the metal scene, Swedish hardcore giants Raised Fist are finally hitting Australian shores for their long overdue first tour.

With the new intense wall-of-sound 4th album Sound of the Republic, the focus and determination to take their brutal hardcore to a new level is stronger than ever.

Over the years Raised Fist has become a highly respected name in the hardcore scene. Formed back in 1993 when the scene in Europe started to simmer, the band took its first steps with influences taken mainly from bands as Gorilla Biscuits and Youth Of Today.

A couple of early EPs, followed by the three full-length albums Fuel (1998), Ignoring The Guidelines (2000) and Dedication (2002) has lead to massive support and legendary cult-status.

MILLER-HEIDKE WINS PATRONS CHOICE

Budding Brisbane songwriter and musician Kate Miller-Heidke took out “Patrons Choice” at the first ever annual Folk Alliance Awards in Canberra in recognition of being the highest selling artist at all national folk festivals in the last year. Miller-Heidke was up against two other popular favourites Lior and Blue King Brown.

2006 has been a landmark year for Miller-Heidke, with her EP Circular Breathing making waves in the media and sold-out tours around Australia. A six song collection of melodic and sublimely understated piano and guitar driven folk-pop tunes, Circular Breathing marries incisive, quirky, personal and poetic lyrics with a vocal performance that is nothing short of masterful.

Just finishing up the 2006 run of the respected Broad festival, Kate reassembles her own band to hit the road for a final time in 2006, playing her Apartment Tour - five special shows in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide, before heading into the studio to record her debut album.

The Apartment Tour will be the biggest headline shows of Kate’s career, and will also celebrate the release of her first video clip for the single “Apartment”.

Dates:
Wednesday 4 October: The Tivoli, Brisbane
Thursday 5 October: The Basement, Sydney
Friday 6 October: Jive Bar, Adelaide
Saturday 7 October: Northcote Social Club, Melbourne
Sunday 8 October: Northcote Social Club, Melbourne
