AMP 2006
Last year, Melbourne touring behemoths the Drones
took home the kitty of $25,000, after 61 independent
and varied judges declared Wait Long By the River
and the Bodies of Your Enemies Will Float By to
be the best Australian album, on merit, for the year.
Yes, it beat out Wolfmother! And Rogue Traders!!
Wonders of wonders will never cease.
The Australian Music
Prize will be back this year to independently
judge the “best” album of 2006.
This year, entries will ONLY be open during October
and November, so as to best avoid the Christmas rush
experienced in 2005.
Details are yet to be confirmed as to how the nomination
process will work, but will be diligently reported
here regardless.
A jump in judging numbers has seen the panel expand
to around 100 judges this year, meaning that robust
discussion can be expected.
JUGS TO SUPPORT
SISTERS AND PRESETS
Midnight Juggernauts have been heating up dance
floors around the country in celebration of their
new EP Secrets of the Universe.
Keeping
themselves super busy, the guys will play a show
in New Zealand
before
returning to Melbourne and Sydney this month for
a string of shows with The Presets.
Following this,
Midnight
Juggernauts will support Scissor Sisters at Luna
Park in Sydney on Wednesday 26 July.
A sonic blizzard traversing dirty-organ-rock, stadium-disco-metal
and sci-fi roller-skating jams, Secrets of the
Universe features five new tracks including
the hotter than hot single “Shadows”, plus a remix
by The Presets, and a video for “45 and Rising”.
With wide cross over appeal
between the dance and rock arenas, Midnight Juggernauts
have remixed the
likes of The Presets, Damn Arms and Paul Kelly’s
Stardust 5, and also toured with Cutcopy, Wolfmother,
Death
From Above 1979, Gerling, Electric 6 and Trans Am.
Their
sounds can be heard on numerous compilations including
Modular’s Leave Them All Behind,
FBI’s Kill Your Idols, !K7’s Tsubi
DJ Kicks, and various 12”s spinning across
the UK.
With a host of other side projects
kicking along, including a soundtrack to a new
feature film, Midnight
Juggernauts have been forging a remarkably unique
path through the music scene. One of the country’s
most exciting new acts, Midnight Juggernauts are
ready to burn your house down.
