Hot on the heels
of the nominations announcement for the 2006
ARIA Awards, ARIA is proud to announce details
of the first four performers who will raise the
roof at Australia’s premiere music awards
event at Acer Arena on Sunday October 29th, broadcast
on Network Ten at 7.30pm. General public tickets
will go on sale next Thursday September 21st
with a number of exclusive online pre-sales options
available.
Everybody cry Wolf! Nominated
for no less than 5 ARIA Awards, the three curly
haired brothers
in arms from Wolfmother will perform live at the
ARIA Awards for the very first time. Although only
in existence for a relatively short time, Wolfmother have almost single handedly revitalised the local
rock scene with their self-titled debut album,
which spawned the hit anthem “Woman”.
Currently one of Australia’s hottest musical
exports, they’ll be back for their appearance
at the 2006 ARIA Awards after an exhaustive tour
of the US and Europe.
Also nominated for 5 ARIA Awards
(and 4 ARIA Artisan Awards) and already the winners
of 2 Artisan Awards
(Producers of the Year, Engineer of the Year),
Perth power pop outfit Eskimo Joe will grace the
ARIA Awards stage to showcase their unique blend
of soulful guitar rock and grand melodies. Lauded
as musical darlings by critics and fans alike,
Eskimo Joe’s self produced album <I>Black
Fingernails, Red Wine debuted in the top spot on
the ARIA Awards chart and spent 3 weeks in the
number 1 position.
Adding musical sunshine to ARIA
Award proceedings will be identical twins Jess
and Lisa aka The Veronicas.
Australia’s favourite pop duo have taken
Australia by storm with the clever, catchy pop
songs from their debut album <I>The Secret
Life of...which has been nominated for 3 ARIA Awards.
This isn’t your standard pre-packaged teen
dream. With tough and edgy hooks and harmonies
to spare, The Veronicas are set to deliver a sound
and lyrics that rock with the sheer joy of free
spirits on the prowl.
And making a very special return
trip home from the U.S will be Australian country
rock icon Keith
Urban. He’s been a busy man, shooting a video
clip and putting the finishing touches on his fourth,
as yet untitled studio album. He continues to kick
goals in the United States where the first single
("Once In A Lifetime,") from his forthcoming
album made history by debuting at #17 on the Billboard
Hot Country Song Chart. According to the trade
publication, it becomes the highest debuting single
in the 62-year history of that chart, outpacing
two previous singles, both of which debuted at
#18.
ARIA Awards producers can also
confirm that a collective of Australian and international
talent
will present the 2006 ARIA Awards, rather than
the customary solo host format. This format, which
was adopted successfully for the 2005 event, will
see a multitude of presenters lend their personality,
style and musical expertise to the Network Ten
telecast on Sunday October 29th at 7.30pm. The
first of several co-anchors’ to be announced
is Australian Idol and Channel [V]’s James
Mathison currently riding high on the success of
Idol series number four.
Watch this space for details of further Australian
and international presenters and performers to
be revealed in coming weeks and come join the excitement
at the 2006 ARIA Awards.

GETTING
A GOOD GROUNDING
Melbourne’s Ground
Components are creating more than your average
‘storm-in-a-teacup’ with their debut long player,
An Eye For A Brow, A Tooth For A Pick,
and their rapturously received live performances.
The word is out - these inspired contenders
and their refreshing take on contemporary rock
are creating major waves Australia-round.
Released
just a few weeks ago, An Eye For A Brow,
A Tooth For A Pick has already been
met with universal critical acclaim. Triple
J cherry-picked
the band for the coveted Feature Album of The
Week, proclaiming the band had released ‘one
of the best album’s of 2006’.
Melbourne’s The
Age and Herald Sun were quick
to follow suit, both appointing the album 4
star
reviews, The Age calling the album
‘defiant and celebratory’, Herald
Sun proclaiming
the
album
to be ‘refreshingly oblivious to fashion, there’s
something special going on’. Beat Magazine made
it Album of The Week: ‘It’s the way rock n
roll
is meant to be; unbelievably accomplished’.
Organic,
sinewy, genre-twisting soul-rock at its finest,
Ground Components have toured
and recorded incessantly since forming in 2003.
Their music is celebratory, defiant and inclusive.
Drawing influences as diverse as Northern Soul,
Reggae, agit-rock, and campfire protest song,
An Eye For A Brow, A Tooth For A Pick, is a
come-one, come-all party.
Ground Components
are a force to be reckoned with live. Having
already won audiences over
on their recent jaunts around the country
playing with the likes Dan Kelly and the Alpha
Males,
Powderfinger and the Mess Hall, the Groundies
tread the boards in their own right with
a national tour this September and October.
It?s
a take-no-prisoners,
feel-good, soul train journey. Prepare to
step on board.
