SLEEPY DREAMING

Perth band The Sleepy Jackson, fronted by unique singer/songwriter/artist Luke Steele, have announced details of an Australian headline tour in support of the new album Personality One Was A Spider One Was A Bird.

The tour will take in all states and kicks off September 7 in Hobart leading through to Perth on September 23.

It’s a triumphant return for The Sleepy Jackson with Personality debuting at #10 on the Australian ARIA Album Chart earlier this month.

The album is already being heaped with critical praise both locally and internationally, where it’s being released in the UK, North America, throughout Europe and South East Asia. The press includes 4 star reviews in Rolling Stone, Q, Mojo and Uncut.

The band are just about to complete a run of UK and US tour dates which included amazing sold out shows at infamous venues such as the Scala in London, the Bowery Ballroom in New York and The Troubadour in Los Angeles.

The tour announcement ties in perfectly with the news that The Sleepy Jackson have just been nominated for the 6th J Award nomination of 2006 for Personality. The band were in LA when it was announced but are said to be wrapped with the news, which puts them in the running to win the second Triple J award, taken out by Wolfmother’s self-titled debut last year in its inaugural year.

And if that wasn’t enough good news for one media release, the band release their new single “Devil Was In My Yard” to radio and TV next week. The video was directed by Squareyed Films (Silverchair, The Living End, Missy Higgins, Bob Evans) and again confirms The Sleepy Jackson as one of this country’s most unique and creative bands.

Thursday 7th September – University of Tasmania, Hobart
Friday 8th September – Corner Hotel, Melbourne
Saturday 9th September – Adelaide Uni Bar
Wednesday 13th September – University of Canberra
Thursday 14th September – Wollongong Uni
Friday 15th September – The Zoo, Brisbane
Saturday 16th September – Metro Theatre, Sydney

KASHMIR FOR KATE

Danish rock darlings Kashmir have been announced to support Something For Kate for their Melbourne and Adelaide shows.

They will be showcasing the new material off their brand new record Last Balance Palace, released earlier this month.

It’s been 2 years since Kashmir toured Australia, when they won over fans and created a cult following. See them again in action this September 2006, as they join Something For Kate.

Formed in the spring of 1991 in Kastanievejens Efterskole (a boarding school), Frederiksberg, Denmark, by Kasper Eistrup, Mads Tunebjerg and Asger Techau. Shortly after they started perfoming thursday nights at Ordrup Gymnasium (a local high school).

The name of the band is, obviously, taken from the Led Zeppelin song. Amazingly, previously they called themselves Nirvana but changed when the American band Nirvana started to gain success.

No Balance Palace features Lou Reed reciting a poem on “Black Building”, and David Bowie singing a duet with Kashmir frontman Kasper Eistrup on “The Cynic”. The album was produced by longtime Bowie producer Tony Visconti.
