If the strength
of Australian music lies in its diversity, then
the domestic music community is in very strong
shape indeed.
In a wide open year where the big winners could
come from left of field, the ARIA Awards voting
academy has delivered one of the most eclectic
set of nominees to date, who will be featured in
TEN’s broadcast of the ARIA Awards on Sunday October
29 at 7.30pm.
Announced today
in Sydney, this year’s ARIA
Awards nominees includes artists as diverse as
Augie March, Hilltop Hoods, Wolfmother, Bob Evans,
Clare Bowditch, Human Nature, Troy Cassar-Daley,
The Grates, The Living End, Youth Groupand the
Veronicas. There are plenty of new
faces making
their ARIA Awards nominations debut and an exciting
collection of artists, both new and established,
who have received multiple nominations.
A number of artists have each received 5 ARIA
Award nominations. Bernard Fanning, an artist who
is already a multi ARIA Award winner courtesy of
Powderfinger, has been nominated 5 times (plus
2 Artisan Nominations) for his debut solo
album Tea and Sympathy. Hip-hop super
heroes Hilltop Hoods cap off an extraordinary year
with 5 nominations
as does the globetrotting trio Wolfmother who have
taken Australian music fans by storm with their
fusion of prog metal rock. Winners in last year’s
Best Group category, Eskimo Joe have stormed in
with 5 nominations (plus 2 Artisan Nominations)
for their chart-topping album Black Fingernails,
Red Wine.
The category of
Best Female Artist features an intriguing crop
of performers
including
three
relatively
new female artists - Clare Bowditch,
Holly Throsby and Jen Cloher, who
have all received maiden
nominations.
Australia’s previously nominated R&B
queen Jade MacRae returns alongside perenial ARIA
Award winner Kasey Chambers.
Adding to the girl power is glamour pop duo The
Veronicas who have received 3 nominations
for their
hit album The Secret Life Of...
The 2006 ARIA Award Artisan winners were
announced today at the nominations event in the
categories
of Producer of the Year, Engineer of the Year,
Best Video and Best Cover Art and artisans representing
two of the finest Australian albums of the year
have dominated. ARIA is proud to announce that
Eskimo Joe have received the ARIA Award in the
coveted Producer of the Year category for their
critically acclaimed best seller Black
Fingernails, Red
Wine. The Engineer of the Year for the 2nd
year in a row is Matt Lovell for
his
work
on
that record. Production
company Head Pictures have taken out the ARIA
Award for best Video for Bernard Fanning’s
whimsical “Wish You Well” film clip. And Debaser
has won the ARIA Award for best cover art for his Tea And Sympathy
The 2006 ARIA Awards
will be held on Sunday October 29, at Acer Arena
and
will be broadcast on Network
