LIKE LIGHTS IN THE NIGHT SKY

On the back of the release of their 5th studio album Desert Lights, which is out now, Melbourne three-piece Something for Kate (who expand to four for performance procedures) are preparing to pack their “Cigarettes and Suitcases” to head off on the D E S E R T L I G H T S national tour.

This tour will see the band travel around the nation from August through September and October playing songs from the brand new album and their extensive back catalogue of five studio albums - not to mention the b-sides.

Indeed, new release Desert Lights is their briefest release to date - it clocks in at a mere ten tracks and lasts for under three-quarters of an hour. Already the tip has it that this brevity has been an instant winner, with the album set to alight at the top of the ARIA charts.

Guests have yet to be confirmed for their forthcoming shows, but last time around Something For Kate took young Melbourne group Damn Arms on the road. The last time they did an album tour, however, for The Official Fiction, Something For Kate had forthcoming Australian visitors death cab for cutie along for the ride.

It will be interesting to see who it is this time.

NEVER LOSE THAT FEELING

This August, Australia will get the scoop on one of the hottest new bands currently setting the UK music scene on fire.

The band is The Feeling – a dishy five piece whose smart pop music houses plenty of catchy hooks and killer choruses, a fact which the band themselves are not afraid to admit to.

“You can get away with murder in pop music,” says lead-singer Dan. “We like getting away with murder. We like great big choruses and great big hooks.”

As do the public… The Feeling’s debut album Twelve Stops And Home caused quite a stir in the UK. The album yielded two Top 10 hits – “Fill My Little World” and “Sewn” – the latter of which has become one of the biggest radio hits of the year so far.

In Australia, they will perform one show only at The Gaelic Theatre in Sydney on Monday 7 August and at The Prince of Wales in Melbourne on Tuesday 8 August.

Live, The Feeling are well worth seeing. Recent performances in the UK have critics singing their praises, while the album itself has been pilloried for being a repetitive take on the dad-rock sound.

Dates:
Monday 7 August - The Gaelic Theatre, Sydney
Tuesday 8 August - The Prince of Wales, Melbourne
